About The Position

The Phlebotomist I position at PathGroup involves performing daily phlebotomy activities at the Patient Service Center (PSC) or through In-office Phlebotomy (IOP). The role requires interaction with clients and patients in a professional manner while ensuring accurate and timely specimen collection and processing. The position emphasizes patient care, adherence to safety protocols, and maintaining high standards of accuracy in data entry and specimen handling.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Phlebotomist Certification is preferred (required in Louisiana).
  • Prior job-related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers appropriately and treat them in a courteous manner.
  • Ensure all field phlebotomy and PSC specimens are collected accurately and on time.
  • Collect specimens according to established procedures.
  • Explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.
  • Reduce patient anxiety by providing a calm environment during the collection process.
  • Dispose of blood or biohazard fluids in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Complete requisitions accurately and enter patient and specimen information into the computer.
  • Communicate with clients to confirm orders and verify test information.
  • Research test/client information using the lab computer system.
  • Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label them accurately.
  • Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
  • Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.
  • Maintain required records and documentation, including daily logs and monthly statistics.
  • Perform basic clerical duties such as filing, faxing, and preparing mail.
  • Approve time in attendance software and submit accurate expense and travel logs as directed.
  • Adhere to departmental grooming and dress code policies, maintaining a neat appearance.
  • Communicate pertinent information to supervisors for resolution of issues.
  • Contribute to a positive work climate and team effort within the department.
  • Ensure facilities are clean and report maintenance issues as needed.
  • Assist with periodic inventory counts and report shortages.
  • Utilize proper PPE to ensure safety and adhere to laboratory safety precautions.
