About The Position

The Phlebotomist II at Geisinger Multi-Specialty Clinic is responsible for performing venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens, ensuring high-quality specimen collection and processing. This role involves interacting with patients of all ages, utilizing computer systems for patient registration and billing, and maintaining compliance with laboratory standards. The position supports Geisinger's mission of providing exceptional patient care through innovative laboratory services.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) required.
  • Minimum of 1 year related work experience required.
  • Valid Driver's License required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a nursing assistant (NA), certified nursing assistant (CNA), medical assistant (MA), certified medical assistant (CMA) or similar will be considered.
  • Military experience such as US Army 68W Combat Medic, 18D, US Navy Hospital Corpsman, and related medical specialties.

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
  • Exhibit knowledge of adequate and correct collection requirements.
  • Perform accessioning procedures appropriately and accurately to ensure positive identification of the specimens.
  • Recognize and resolve discrepancies as appropriate.
  • Evaluate specimen suitability and acceptability.
  • Resolve or refer problems as appropriate.
  • Perform testing and record Point of Care instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control as assigned.
  • Handle and replenish reagents and supplies according to established protocols as assigned.
  • Follow established reporting procedures as appropriate.
  • Record and report problems and solutions as appropriate.
  • Navigate and access multiple computer applications as needed.
  • Know and abide by related policies and procedures including compliance policies.
  • Provide phlebotomy coverage as required to Medical Group offices, skilled nursing facilities, or perform in-home phlebotomy for homebound patients.
