Requirements

• High school diploma or General Educational Development Diploma (GED) required
• Completion of a formal phlebotomy program, phlebotomy experience, and experience in a laboratory-related field preferred
• May be required to have Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Responsibilities

• Prepping & performing phlebotomy on children up to elderly patients
• Preparing samples for pickup
• Maintain appropriate supplies inventory
• Charting blood draws
• Uses equipment to collect samples of blood and other fluids from patients/residents
• Explains procedures to patients/residents and collects information from them in a professional manner
• Ensures patient/resident safety during the sample collection process
• Records and documents patient/resident information accurately
• Follows all standard procedures and safety regulations
• Deploys asepsis techniques during phlebotomy procedures
• Communicates with patients/residents, collecting their health information and answering their questions regarding phlebotomy procedures
