About The Position

The Phlebotomist obtains blood specimens in accordance with locally established guidelines; transport these specimens to the appropriate department for processing. Ensures that all specimens are accurately labeled and properly sent to laboratory. Exhibits a professional demeanor with patients, physicians and employees. Consistently greets all people in a pleasant and helpful manner. Demonstrates the understanding of proper techniques for the various types of blood collection including venipuncture, capillary, heel sticks and order of draw. Identify yourself to patients, explain the procedures that you are going to perform and positively identify the patient according to regulatory standards. Proficient in collection of neonatal, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients. Recollects necessary specimens according to policy. Observes established safety procedures and OSHA regulations for blood borne pathogens. Gives stats and special timed orders immediate attention. Demonstrates proficiency in Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) collection tools. Education High School Diploma or equivalent required. Must be enrolled in or have completed a Phlebotomy training program. Experience Any chemistry or biology background is helpful. Certification & Licensures BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) - American Heart ‘Healthcare Provider’ (HCP) - AHA approved preferred Qualifications Ability to exhibit a professional demeanor with patients, physicians and employees. Demonstrated knowledge of phlebotomy practice. Attendance meets requirements set forth in Valley Health (VH) policy. Work area meets safety standards. Upholds VH Code of Conducts.
