About The Position

The Clinical Services Technician plays a crucial role in the collection and processing of pathology specimens at Ambulatory Care Centers. This position is responsible for ensuring proper patient and specimen identification, managing laboratory workflow, and maintaining specimen integrity for transport to laboratories. The technician also performs point-of-care testing (POCT) and engages with patients to manage their expectations and wait times, all while adhering to service excellence standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
  • Graduate from a Phlebotomy program or Certificate from an accredited institution preferred.
  • 1 year of clinical experience as a Phlebotomist or equivalent education.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensure in Phlebotomy preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Collect pathology specimens at Ambulatory Care Centers.
  • Register, process, and allocate laboratory specimens and orders from various sources.
  • Verify proper patient/specimen identification and appropriateness of specimens and accompanying orders.
  • Organize laboratory workflow and prioritize processing and preparation of specimens for transport.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment and proper supply levels.
  • Utilize equipment, instruments, and computer systems to test requests, accession, label, and package specimens.
  • Perform specified procedures within established testing methods and responsibilities.
  • Conduct point-of-care testing (POCT) and document maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Manage patient wait times and expectations using computer systems and clear communication.
  • Demonstrate service excellence by acknowledging customers and responding with empathy.
  • Update knowledge and skills as required and maintain competencies.
