About The Position

The Phlebotomist 2 is responsible for properly identifying patients, drawing blood samples, and sending them to the laboratory for analysis. This role includes maintaining records of tests performed and blood samples taken, and may involve performing waived or moderate complex tests in a laboratory setting. Additionally, the Phlebotomist 2 may assist in the supervision and training of lower-level Phlebotomists.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in phlebotomy with demonstrated proficiency in all age groups.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • May require Louisiana License as Medical Lab Assistant by LSBME within 6 months of employment if performing waived or moderate complex testing duties.

Responsibilities

  • Properly identify patients and draw blood samples for laboratory analysis.
  • Maintain records of tests performed and blood samples taken.
  • Perform waived or moderate complex tests in a laboratory setting.
  • Assist in the supervision and training of lower-level Phlebotomists.
  • Coordinate, plan, and utilize time efficiently to prioritize and organize duties.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and request orders as necessary.
  • Demonstrate initiative in adapting to changes or unusual circumstances.
  • Ensure quality in all aspects of daily functions and work processes.
  • Schedule and assign work to staff members and monitor work quality.
  • Use professional discretion with patient information and maintain confidentiality.
  • Follow all departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Provide quality training and orientation for assigned employees.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with patients and staff.
