About The Position

Philanthropy Officer is responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift prospects and donors through established best practices in healthcare fundraising as defined by Sanford Health Foundation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of fundraising or non-profit philanthropic experience required.
  • Familiarity with marketing principles as they apply to fundraising.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification designation preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee high-level giving and fundraising efforts for market specific priorities.
  • Develop and implement proven strategies for assigned prospects with the ultimate goal of closing a gift.
  • Assist with local market efforts to develop and execute major donor related events and campaigns with specific responsibility for meeting agreed-upon major giving revenue targets.
  • Manage and maintain a portfolio of Major Giving donors and top prospects that may include, but are not limited to, organization leadership, board members, community leaders, and other high-profile and important relationships.
  • Maintain high quality relationships with variety of internal and external partners, including all levels of donors.
  • In consultation with leadership, provide personalized stewardship to assigned donors and devise individually tailored major gift strategies and communications efforts specific and unique to each donor.
  • Share responsibility for strategic planning, development and implementation of goals in collaboration with other members of the team. This includes specifically working to identify new volunteer and financial support opportunities from patients and community members with the goal of expanding the number of viable qualified Major Gifts for Sanford Health.
  • Support and guide key institutional and philanthropy related messages and preparation of proposals, donor communication, solicitation letters and other materials ensuring content is persuasive to key and target audiences.
  • Participate in specific fundraising campaigns and collaborate with support teams.
  • Accurately record and report key metrics through use of internal tracking systems.
  • Work collaboratively with the Foundation Development Operations team to facilitate reporting, research and analysis.
  • Use an entrepreneurial spirit to identify and implement development opportunities as well as self-initiating skills and desires.
  • Possess strong written, verbal and listening communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable of development strategies and skills pertinent to making personal solicitations.
  • Well organized with the ability to work well with interruptions and stress.
  • Possesses flexibility and adaptability skills, which help to accommodate changing situations and workloads.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects to completion and possess a strong sense of customer service.
  • Manages a diverse portfolio through traditional cultivation methods.
  • Other duties as assigned.
