About The Position

The PHC Technician is responsible for assuring the health and aesthetic quality of all ornamental shrubs, trees, and turf through proper horticultural applications

  • A high school education/GED and 1+ years of retail sales experience or the equivalent combination of education, experience and/or training
  • Minimum 1 year experience with chemical or spray applications or 4 or more years’ experience in the green industry
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Pesticide applicators license or in process
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Adhere to Company’s safety policy and ensure that the public and co-workers will be safe while performing job duties
  • Constantly required to talk, hear, see, sit, stand, and walk
  • Must be able to see at close vision, distant vision, peripherally, have depth perception and can adjust focus
  • Frequent use of hands to manipulate, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls
  • Frequently required to reach, bend, twist, stoop, crouch, climb and balance
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds and carry 50 feet
  • Occasionally works with mechanical objects and outside in all weather conditions
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Occasionally exposed to loud noise levels

Responsibilities

  • Plant and maintain plants. ex) Remove weeds, fertilize, water plants, shrubs, and trees
  • Requires use of hand tools and gardening tools
  • Harvest plants, and transplant or pot them with proper labels
  • Monitor and record the plants' leaf coloring to detect the presence of insects or disease
  • Operate tractors, other machinery, and fertilizing equipment
  • Cultivate, harvest, and spray fields and plants
  • Inspect plants to assess quality
  • Dig, cut, and transplant seedlings, cuttings, trees, and shrubs
  • Move containerized shrubs, plants, and trees, using wheelbarrows or tractors
  • Clean work areas and maintain grounds and landscaping
  • Haul and spread topsoil, fertilizer, peat moss, and other materials to condition soil, using wheelbarrows or carts and shovels
  • Maintain and repair irrigation and climate control system
  • Responsible and safe application of both granular and liquid fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides in adherence to all local and state regulations
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
