Under direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist and in accordance with standard departmental procedures, the Pharmacy Technician prepares medications for patient consumption. This role involves performing duties assigned by a licensed pharmacist, ensuring quality control, and adhering to departmental procedures and policies. Key responsibilities include reading and interpreting physicians' orders, transcribing them onto pharmacy computer medication profiles, and preparing unit doses, with all work verified by a licensed pharmacist. The technician will also prepare compounds (e.g., creams, ointments) and patient prescriptions under direct pharmacist supervision, ensuring compliance with pharmacy law and standards of practice. The position requires active participation in pharmacy tech meetings, maintaining an up-to-date pharmacy tech manual for training and reference, and routinely checking and removing outdated medications while keeping appropriate records. The Pharmacy Technician will assist the pharmacy manager with billing by using correct reason codes and dates, and help with checking in orders, stocking, and filing associated paperwork. Attendance at departmental/center-wide meetings is required, as is maintaining a clean and orderly workspace. The role demands competency in caring for patients of all age groups and developmental stages, and professional interaction with patients and customers, providing polite and friendly service. The technician is expected to assist patients, family members, or other clients with concern and empathy, respect their confidentiality and privacy, and communicate courteously. Teamwork is crucial, involving assisting in the orientation/training of new team members, working cooperatively, assisting others, seeking opportunities to help, considering the impact of actions on team members, and demonstrating flexibility to fill open shifts and perform cross-functional duties.
