The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for supporting pharmacological services for the In-Office Dispensary (IOD) by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications. Provides support for the office independently and with minimal supervision. Performs other diverse duties as requested or required under the general and direct supervision of the manager.

  • Manage payor prior authorizations.
  • Work with both the patient and foundation funding team to ensure access to medications as needed.
  • To create a positive and professional first impression for the practice and to show the patients a “we care” attitude.
  • Process prescriptions electronically and ensure prescription information is accurate and complete.
  • Collect patient insurance and demographic information, including allergies and comorbidities.
  • Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
  • Respond to patients and healthcare providers requests, answering their questions and referring various inquiries to the applicable staff in a timely and sensitive manner.
  • Retrieves, pours, counts, labels, and reconstitutes prescription medications.
  • Transfer medication from vials to the appropriate number of sterile, disposable syringes using aseptic techniques.
  • Pack all medications for delivery to the appropriate location.
  • Price and file prescriptions that have been filled.
  • Order, label, and count stock of medications, chemicals, and supplies, and enter inventory data into computer.
  • Clean and help maintain equipment and work areas and sterilize glassware according to prescribed methods.
  • Prepare and process medical insurance claim forms and records.
  • Complete reports and send them to applicable team members as required.
  • Ensure all medication recalls are completed according to rules and regulations.
  • Check all inventory for the appropriate expiration date and return when applicable.
  • Maintains logs for registering, return to stock, credits, HIPAA, no safety caps waivers, vouchers/grants, inventory, and special assignments.
  • Receive payments for prescriptions dispensed and log payments accurately into system.

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED required.
  • All states except Arizona: Applicants must complete a pharmacy technician training program that the State Board of Pharmacy approves in the state you are in or accredited by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP).
  • Arizona Only: Register with the Arizona State Board of Pharmacy as a pharmacy technician trainee and pass the Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCE) or become nationally certified through the PTCB and register with the State Board as a pharmacy technician.
  • Proficient with enterprise pharmaceutical dispensing software.
  • Proficient knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient math skills.
  • Proficient computer software and database skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledgeable in state and federal pharmacy law.
  • Must have the ability & willingness to travel to other sites as necessary within a geographic region.
  • Regularly required to sit and stand for extended periods.
  • Involves standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, and twisting.
  • Requires full range of body motion, including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
  • Frequently lift and or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Minimum of three (3) years Pharmacy Technician experience preferred.
