The Pharmacy Technician performs clinical and technical tasks within pharmacy operations under the direct supervision of a licensed Pharmacist or the Director of Pharmacy Affairs. Responsibilities include assisting with prescription dispensing, inventory management, insurance verification, and maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification from an approved technical school or a minimum of six months of experience in a retail or hospital pharmacy
  • Current BLS certification or ability to maintain certification
  • Ability to complete required 340B University training within the first two weeks of employment and annual renewals thereafter
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and electronic health records
  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology and ability to perform basic pharmacy math
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work efficiently in a moderately fast-paced clinical environment
  • Team-oriented mindset with adaptability to changing priorities
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk throughout the workday
  • Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds
  • Moderate noise level and exposure to a clinical healthcare setting
  • Ability to maintain focus and accuracy during prolonged periods of concentration

Responsibilities

  • Accurately prepare and dispense medications according to pharmacy SOPs
  • Identify medications from stock, count correct quantities, and prepare prescription labels
  • Verify patient eligibility with insurance plans and third-party payers and calculate costs as needed
  • Answer incoming calls and respond to routine questions, escalating complex inquiries to the pharmacist
  • Assist with patient education materials under pharmacist supervision
  • Support refill authorization requests and communication with providers and care team members
  • Maintain accurate records and assist with quality control and quality assurance activities
  • Manage daily pharmacy operations including inventory, supplies, and cash handling
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Florida Board of Pharmacy regulations, and all state and federal requirements
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment
  • Promote positive relationships with patients, visitors, and the community
