About The Position

The purpose of the Pharmacy Technician is to assist pharmacists in the preparation, dispensing, and distribution of medications while ensuring accuracy, safety, and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The pharmacy technician supports the efficient operation of the pharmacy by performing technical duties under pharmacist supervision, with commitment to providing culturally responsive care to Native American and lower-income populations served by NARA NW

Requirements

  • Either High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification required.
  • State License and National Pharmacy Technician certification required.
  • Basic understanding of 340B pharmacy operations
  • One year’s experience performing duties noted above or equivalents.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Ability to respect confidentiality of patient data.
  • Strong communication skills; courteous attitude.
  • Understanding of medical terminology and calculations.
  • Ability to type at least 35 words per minute; knowledge of computer operations.
  • Knowledge of medication brand and generic names.
  • Knowledge of insurance and third-party payment systems.
  • Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients, the community, and other staff members.
  • Must pass a pre-employment or for cause drug tests.
  • Must pass criminal background and DMV checks.

Responsibilities

  • Under the supervision of Pharmacist on duty, assist in the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with State, Federal and Company policies.
  • Mastering Athena, PioneerRx, ScriptPro, MiniMedBank, RapidPak and Medsense
  • Extreme multi-tasking and pharmacy calculation
  • Provide excellent customer service skills and assistance to patients regarding prescriptions and pharmacy related services.
  • Enter prescription orders in PioneerRx, Fill and Maintain ScriptPro Automation Machine, Run PioneerRx Point of Sale system.
  • Understand how to separate 340B and non 340B drug inventory systems, hazardous vs nonhazardous drugs.
  • Manage patient demographics in pharmacy software system. Including creation of patient profile and insurance information in computer and/or update patient’s profile.
  • Report prescription errors to pharmacist in compliance with departmental policy and Quality Improvement process
  • Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims.
  • Assure and verify that all prescriptions are given to the correct patients.
  • Complete Residential medication orders, place orders on shelves, and verify all associated paperwork
