About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician supports the organization by coordinating in-office pharmacy dispensing activities, following company policies and procedures. Responsibilities include assisting with verification of pharmacy benefits, ensuring medications are properly ordered for patient treatment needs, and collaborating closely with clinical staff.

Requirements

  • Three (3) years of experience in a medical practice or pharmacy environment preferred.
  • Previous experience with precertification and prior authorizations strongly desired.
  • Active pharmacy technician certification required.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret instructions from multiple formats including written, verbal, and diagrammatic.
  • Proficiency working with computer information systems.
  • Must hold active or pending registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the New Jersey Board of Pharmacy.
  • Technician Applicant status must be filed within 10 days of hire and full registration obtained within 180 days.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • State/national criminal background screening and drug screen required to ensure good moral character and compliance with New Jersey Administrative Code 13:39-6.6.
  • Must comply with pharmacist supervision requirements including limits on technician-to-pharmacist ratio.
  • Must wear a visible identification badge including name and 'Pharmacy Technician' title per N.J.S.A. 45:14-80(h).
  • Responsible for maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations related to patient confidentiality (including HIPAA), controlled substance handling, and medication dispensing.

Responsibilities

  • Document precertification processes and activities accurately.
  • Inform patients and appropriate parties of financial requirements.
  • Coordinate authorizations with third parties and ensure timely ordering of medications.
  • Collaborate with physicians and staff to gather information required to meet pharmaceutical needs.
  • Obtain physician approval for medication dispensing.
  • Monitor inventory and assist in maintaining appropriate stock levels.
  • Partner with billing teams for coding and authorization corrections.
  • Post charges and payments within the practice management system and assist with daily deposit tasks.
  • Maintain files and contact records for communication with third-party organizations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold patient rights, privacy, and safety.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations with professionalism and calm.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues.
  • Travel to other business locations as needed to support service coverage.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
