About The Position

As a registered nurse with an Illinois nursing license, you will work remotely to enhance the quality of member care. The Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in supporting patient health outcomes by providing telephonic engagement to assist in the adherence to prescribed medications and to help patients navigate filling of prescriptions across the healthcare continuum. Working within a managed care environment, this position ensures patients receive timely, coordinated pharmacy support while contributing to value-based care initiatives. The Pharmacy Technician partners closely with clinical and Healthguide teams to connect patients with the resources they need.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Current, unrestricted Pharmacy Technician certification in the State of Illinois (CPhT or equivalent) required; must be maintained in good standing throughout employment.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Pharmacy Technician in a retail, specialty, health plan, or managed care setting.
  • Understanding of value-based care principles, including quality metrics, HEDIS measures, and pay-for-performance models.
  • Demonstrated experience in telephonic patient engagement, including outreach, education, and support in navigating healthcare services.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy law, drug interactions, and safe medication dispensing practices applicable to the State of Illinois.
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly explain medication instructions, benefit information, and care navigation options to patients over the phone.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with pharmacy or health plan information systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working within a managed care organization, health plan, or pharmacy benefit management (PBM) environment.
  • Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, or commercial health plan formulary and benefit structures.
  • Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish or other languages) to support diverse patient populations.
  • Experience with Medication Therapy Management (MTM) programs or population health initiatives.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field.
  • Experience in fully remote environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting outbound telephonic outreach to patients to support medication adherence, address barriers to care, and promote engagement with their healthcare plan.
  • Assisting patients in navigating healthcare services, including coordination of prior authorizations, benefit inquiries, and referrals to appropriate care resources.
  • Supporting care gap closure activities by identifying members in need of medication reviews, refills, or preventive services and coordinating appropriate follow-up.
  • Collaborating with pharmacists, nurses, and care coordinators to ensure seamless transitions of care and effective medication management for high-risk members.
  • Documenting all patient interactions, interventions, and outcomes timely and accurately within the applicable health information or care management system.
  • Maintaining knowledge of formulary guidelines, managed care benefit structures, and value-based program requirements to appropriately educate and support members.
  • Ensuring all activities comply with HIPAA, state and federal regulations, and organizational quality and safety standards
