About The Position

About the Job: The Pharmacy Technician provides support in carrying out the provision of pharmaceutical care including medication orders, billing, stock replacement and preparation of controlled drugs for pharmacist checking, filling patient medication bags or carts and delivering medication to units. Also includes purchasing, prepackaging medications, inventory control of all drug classes and automated dispensing cabinets equipment and inventory maintenance and discarding patient own medications.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • One or more years’ experience as a Pharmacy Technician, in a hospital setting preferred.
  • Active and in good-standing Pharmacy Technician license or certification as required by State.
  • CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification may be required based on state requirements or facility policy.
  • First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years’ experience as a Pharmacy Technician, in a hospital setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Fills Physician medication orders under the direction of the Pharmacist.
  • Picks up medications orders and delivers medications to units as required.
  • Orders and receives medications from vendors; places ID stickers on medications and puts medications on shelves.
  • Interprets medication labels to prepare and maintains records of transactions.
  • Prepares unit dose tablets, capsules, and liquids, and other specialty drug trays.
  • Assists the pharmacist with the dispensing of controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records.
  • Maintains formulary and cost savings by minimizing non-formulary procurements and utilizing courier services unless indicated for immediate patient care.
  • Assists with report generation and information retrieval.
  • Maintains stock in automated dispensing units at adequate levels and performs inventory and ordering functions.
  • Reports suspected adverse drug reactions and medication occurrences.
  • Performs inspections of nursing unit floor stock and pharmacy stock to ensure security, potency of medications and removes expired and/or improperly labeled medications from stock.
  • Recommends improvement in pharmacy or facility processes that will decrease the potential for adverse outcomes.
  • Performs daily billing and charge functions as required, recognizing errors when they arise.
  • Discards patients own medications as needed.
