PRIMARY FUNCTION The pharmacy technician assists in providing pharmacy services to White House Clinic patients under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 1 year pharmacy experience is preferred.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (American Heart Association certified)
  • Position requires knowledge of pharmaceutical and related medical technology, metric and apothecary system of weights and measurements.
  • It also requires knowledge in medical safety standards to assist in working with pharmaceutical substances, prescription drugs and the dispensing function to check for correctness.
  • Employee must possess skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
  • Candidate must have the ability to read and interpret prescription information, understand and follow oral and written instructions, perform basic calculations and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in dispensing of prescriptions by compounding, mixing suspensions, counting medication, or pouring liquids under the pharmacist’s direct supervision.
  • Check all prescriptions at drop off for completeness, verify patient information and verify patient’s date of birth is on the prescription.
  • Enter patient data if patient is new to the pharmacy or update any changes in a patient’s demographic in the computer system.
  • Enter prescription information into pharmacy system and prepare prescription labels.
  • Assist with pharmacy filing, receiving and shelving medications, and regular checks for outdated medications.
  • Assist with inventory control of medications and supplies, and in ordering supplies and medications. Also assists Financial Counselor/Enabling Services in ordering medication for indigent drug program.
  • Provides non-drug information to patients and answers simple inquires.
  • Operates cash register, preforms transactions, and gives patient proper receipts.
  • Cleans pharmacy equipment, utensils and work area.
  • Participates in staff development and educational activities, attends required meetings, and participate sin meetings as requested.
  • Assist with other duties or in other departments as instructed by supervisor.
