About The Position

Assists in assuring the accuracy of the pharmacy inventory. Complete physical counts and updates the count in ICON. Ensure that all products leaving the pharmacy area are accounted for and are charged in ICON to the proper recipient. Maintain accurate counts of all controlled substances separate from the count contained in the ICON system. Keep pharmacy stock at a level that ensures orders can be filled promptly and accurately without having excess stock on hand. Performs technical work to assist Iowa licensed pharmacists in the practice of pharmacy. Fill medication requests entered in ICON by nursing staff or offenders. Fill new medication orders processed by pharmacists including, selecting correct medications, packaging medication for the order and properly labeling the order. Have the ability to review and understand the offender medication orders to the appropriate facility and unit. Complete non-sterile compounding under the supervision of a pharmacist. Ability to work and ensure the most important tasks are completed first. Prepare medication orders for offenders leaving the DOC or leaving the institution for a court order. Package medication orders as needed or in bulk production. Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification: 1) One year of full-time technical work experience assisting a pharmacist with pharmaceutical tasks. 2) A total of one year of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework in a pharmacy technician training program equals one year of full-time experience. 3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes two years of full-time work as a Pharmacy Assistant.
