Job Description: Duties/Responsibilities Assist in prescription order entry, medication assembly, and acquisition of patient information and demonstrate knowledge and competency of inventory processes, mathematical calculations, and universal precautions Assist with all aspects of customer service including promptly answering phones and greeting and assisting walk-in customers, escorting patients and processing mail out prescriptions Assist with all Omnicell functions including stock refills, medication build, user build and maintenance of drug files and barcodes Knowledgeable to order medications for the department, from the wholesaler or secondary sources, and complete the receipt and storage of products, maps barcodes, processes invoices; maintains accurate pharmacy system inventory Pre-package bulk medications into unit-dose packaging in an accurate and timely manner and maintain adequate inventory levels Prepare prescriptions for dispensing by the pharmacist and fill stock replacements Help maintain an orderly, clean environment including cleanliness of pharmacy stock and supplies Maintain competencies and practices related to USP 797 for sterile compounding including, but not limited to, hand hygiene, garbing, cleaning and disinfecting, calculations and mixing, aseptic technique, achieving and maintaining sterility, use of equipment and required documentation for environmental factors and mixing records Compound extemporaneous preparations in accordance with current standards of practice Prioritize workflow for operational functions that includes inventory management, medication retrieval and labeling, IV compounding, drug delivery and requisition of supplies A pharmacy technician that may need IV Sterile Computing can be hired before completing certification. However, per the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) : Technicians may not independently perform sterile compounding until they have completed required training and passed documented competency evaluations (competency evaluations are performed internally by SRC Pharmacy Staff). During the training period, they must work under direct supervision and may not compound sterile products on their own. There is no set number of days allowed for pre-certification work; the emphasis is on documented competency, not time in role. While not regulated by TSBP, IV certification programs are commonly completed within 30 to 60 days, and rarely take more than 90 days when scheduled promptly. Local ACPE- and ASHP-accredited programs make it feasible for new hires to meet certification requirements within a typical onboarding window.
