About The Position

UPMC Community Osteopathic is seeking a full-time Pharmacy Technician to support safe, high-quality patient care for all age groups. This role works primarily daylight and evening shifts, with hours that may vary based on department needs. Under the supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician assists with medication preparation, dispensing, charging, and delivery. The ideal candidate will have at least six months of prior pharmacy experience. The Certified Pharmacy Technician role is an important step within the UPMC Pharmacy Career Ladder. • Pharmacy Assistant: $19.41 – $29.15 • Pharmacy Technician: $19.74 – $29.67 • Certified Pharmacy Technician: $20.45 – $30.68 Applicants will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary range based on individual experience and education. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior pharmacy technician experience
  • College Degree (minimally an associate's degree) and previous related healthcare experience
  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician certificate course
  • Completion of one full year of education at a college/university with an accredited school of pharmacy and enrolled in coursework working towards a Doctor of Pharmacy degree
  • Act 34

Responsibilities

  • Repackage, prepare, label, and document medications, including non-sterile compounds and IV solutions, under pharmacist supervision.
  • Accurately fill, label, and distribute medications, ensuring pharmacist review prior to dispensing.
  • Deliver medications to patient care areas and manage transfers, returns, and removals as needed.
  • Stock, refill, and maintain automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Handle controlled substances in compliance with established procedures.
  • Inspect medication areas and remove expired or recalled products with proper documentation.
  • Complete required documentation, including charges, credits, logs, and interdepartmental orders.
  • Use pharmacy equipment and technology, including computers, pneumatic tube systems, and dispensing devices.
  • Provide customer service support by answering phones, assisting staff, and monitoring pneumatic tube stations.
  • Maintain a clean, safe pharmacy environment and collaborate with nursing, physicians, and hospital staff.
