Position Summary: To assist the Pharmacy Manager and the Staff Pharmacist in the routine tasks associated with the delivery of pharmacy services and to provide technical and clerical support for the Pharmacy Department. Excellence in Practice: Upon patient discharge, reconciles pharmacy charges and the medication administration record. Utilizes available programs to maintain pharmacy organization and continuity. Processes medication orders from actual copies of original physician's orders or the Emergency Department dispensing information. Follows medication and supply ordering and receiving procedures and medication usage patterns to assure the maintenance of adequate inventory levels at all times. Provides stock medications to Nursing Services, Ancillary Services and the Clinic Network in a timely and appropriate manner. Prepares IV admixtures/general cart or individual filling of medications for dispensing to be checked by the pharmacist and cleaning of the isolators and medication carts; re-packages medications into unit-of-use packaging as needed. Follows system for tracking and removing outdated medication in the pharmacy and does monthly floor inspections in designated areas of the hospital where medications are stored and removes all outdated medications in these areas also. Participates in the annual physical inventory of all medications at the end of the year. Maintains controlled substances in accordance with WRHS policies, NDBOP law, and DEA law. Maintains the departmental pricing system and provides price change information to the Pharmacy Manager; maintains the departmental filing and charging system for all accounts. Helps collect and compile data for Quality Improvement studies.
