Job Description: Job purpose The purpose of the Pharmacy Technician is to assist the pharmacist on the Parenteral Pharmacy Benefits (PPB) team with all aspects of the PPB program. Working conditions: This position works closely with the pharmacy department of a busy medical oncology/hematology clinic. This person generally only has contact with patients via phone. Physical requirements: This position requires that the employee be able to stand, sit or walk for up to eight hours a day. Must be able to look at a computer for eight hours a day. Direct reports This position is not a supervisory position. We are looking for compassionate, adaptable individuals who demonstrate the desire to lead and work together to best treat the patients we serve.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Alabama Technician license required.
  • PTCB certification required.
  • Must have at least 2 years of experience in the oncology/hematology field.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and EHR reporting.
  • Requires a high degree of self-motivation and the ability to manage time effectively to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.

Nice To Haves

  • At least (2) years retail pharmacy experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for determining if parenteral drugs can be processed under pharmacy benefits.
  • Updating treatment plans for parenteral drugs that have been approved to fill through CCI Pharmacy.
  • Contacting patients to explain parenteral drug coverage and dispensing through CCI Pharmacy.
  • Ensuring prescriptions for patients receiving parenteral drugs at satellite locations are sent to that location prior to scheduled appointment time.
  • Speaking with patients to determine if they can self-inject or need a scheduled appointment nurse administration
  • Maximizing parenteral drugs to be included in the PPB program.
  • Contacting patients who are self-injecting to ensure that they have properly administered the parenteral drug and document this in the treatment plan.
  • Communicating with IV staff that they will be receiving approved parenteral drugs for patients approved through the PPB program.
  • Other duties as assigned.
