About The Position

At Nevada Heart and Vascular Center (NHVC) Pharmacy Technician is a role that requires great attention to detail and is primarily tasked with ensuring patient medication orders are quickly and accurately filled. In this clinical role, the Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for communicating with various members of the patient care team and accurately submitting documents to pharmacies, insurance companies, and infusion centers. Additionally, the Pharmacy Technician will be responsible for the precise interpretation of physician pharmacy orders to ensure the patient receives the highest quality of care. The Pharmacy Technician reports directly to the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor with additional direction from the Nurse Manager and clinic physicians.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Nevada State Pharmacy Technician license, approved by the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy.
  • General computer skills with working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications.
  • Detail-oriented with good analytical and organizational skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cohesively within a team environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively converse with patients, staff, physicians, pharmacists, all levels of management and any outside sources.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a cardiology practice
  • Familiarity with cardiac medications
  • Bilingual skills

Responsibilities

  • Refill patient medication orders in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or by fax, precisely as received from the prescribing physician.
  • Submit prior authorizations to insurance companies to ensure drug coverage for the patient.
  • Communicate with patients regarding medication refill requests and drug coverage, while maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor.
  • Converse with pharmaceutical representatives, ensuring a competent and polite manner as a representative of NHVC.
  • Respond to fax messages from pharmacies in a timely manner.
  • Submit infusion medication documents, patient demographics, laboratory results and patient medical record notes to infusion centers.
  • Answer multi-line telephone calls from various outside sources, representatives, and patients.
  • Read and interpret physician orders.
  • Accurately review, analyze, and update patient medical records.
  • Attend staff and other meetings and training courses as needed.
  • Provide sample medication(s) to patients under the direction of the physician.
  • Willingness to complete other duties as assigned.
  • Must follow all policies, procedures, and other directives from administration to include but not limited to: OSHA Safety Manual, Corporate Compliance Manual, HIPAA Compliance Manual, Employee Handbook, and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to arrive at shift/location by scheduled start time, unless approved by management.
