About The Position

Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh is hiring a Pharmacy Technician to work in the inpatient pharmacy at the main hospital in Lawrenceville. The Pharmacy Technician helps prepare, fill, and distribute medications, both sterile and nonsterile. Their work follows regulations from the Department of Health, The Joint Commission, and the State Board of Pharmacy. Title and rate of pay will be determined based on education and experience. UPMC is offering a $5000 sign on bonus with a 2 year work commitment

Requirements

Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required AND one of the following:
Completion of an accredited pharmacy technician program
Six months of previous pharmacy technician experience
Six months experience as a Pharmacy Assistant within the UPMC Health System
Enrollment in a college program and in good standing
Act 31/33/34/73 Child Abuse Clearances

Responsibilities

Assist with labeling, counting, and stocking medications.
Prepare oral and injectable medications, including IV admixtures and TPN, using proper techniques.
Work in the Sterile Product area to prepare hazardous drugs like chemotherapy.
Distribute medications, including cassettes, emergency carts, and controlled substances.
Retrieve and return discontinued medications.
Help with the procurement, storage, preparation, and distribution of investigational drugs.
Maintain inventory levels and update automated medication systems.
Assist in training pharmacy personnel and students.
