About The Position

NuCara LTC is a closed door long-term care pharmacy located in Iowa City, IA. We specialize in packaging and distributing medications to nursing homes, assisted living facilities and group homes in Eastern Iowa. Duties include entering new prescriptions and refilling current orders. Applicant will answer phone calls and should be able to speak courteously with nurses, doctors and patients. We offer a relaxed environment with lots of potential for growth. As we continue to grow we are in need of more members of our elite team. We are currently looking for a full-time (40 hours per week) certified pharmacy technician to join our healthcare team. Certification preferred but not required. If not certified, applicant must pass pharmacy technician certification test within a year of hire date. We are willing to train the right person. The role of the pharmacy technician is to work under the direction of a pharmacist and to be responsible for medications and medical materials in the pharmacy. You will be responsible for inputting medication orders, packaging and preparing medications for dispensing, and assisting the pharmacist perform technical functions. Such functions may include measuring, counting, labeling, record keeping, and communicating with patients and other healthcare professionals.

  • Employment contingent upon successful completion of a drug screen and background check.

  • Nationally Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Enter prescription orders into the computer
  • Create a profile of the patient's health and insurance information in the computer or update the patient's profile
  • Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with local, state, federal, and Company regulations
  • Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims
  • Complete weekly distribution center medication orders, place orders on shelves, and verify all associated paperwork
  • Assist the pharmacist with filling and labeling prescription
  • Prepare the pharmacy inventory
  • Screen telephone calls for the pharmacist
  • Communicate with prescribers and their agents to obtain refill authorization
  • Compound oral solutions, ointments, and creams
  • Prepackage bulk medications
  • Fill bottles with prescribed medications and type and affix labels
  • Price and file prescriptions that have been filled
  • Receive written, oral, faxed, or electronic prescriptions or refill requests and verify that the information is complete and accurate
  • Supply and monitor robotic machines that dispense medicine into containers, and label the containers
  • Answer telephones, responding to questions or requests.
  • Operate office machines, such as photocopiers and scanners, facsimile machines, voice mail systems and personal computers
  • Clean, help maintain equipment and work areas
  • Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs
