About The Position

Under the direct or remote supervision of the Pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician assists with day-to-day activities in the pharmacy. This position will also be required to work with providers and other CHC staff to assist in the provision of quality primary medical services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must have current certification or obtain certification as a Pharmacy Technician upon hire
  • Employer will facilitate certification if needed
  • Must maintain the certification throughout employment with the CHC while performing in the role of Pharmacy Technician
  • Extensive knowledge of medication brand and generic names
  • Ability to perform each essential function duty satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation

  • Solid knowledge of medical terminology demonstrated by completion of secondary educational courses or significant on-the-job training
  • Proficient in calculations as pertaining to medication dosages
  • Knowledge of insurance contracts including private, Medicare, Medicaid, and sliding fee as related to coverage of medications
  • Above average computer skills to operate and/or learn CHC’s current EMR/EHR system and medication ordering/tracking systems
  • Ability to be physically active for long periods of time to ensure patient care and safety and have the ability to work well under pressure and present self in calm, caring, and professional manner
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with all levels of staff personnel
  • Team-oriented and able to work collaboratively with staff
  • Strong problem-solving and time-management skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced medical office environment with frequent interruptions, public contact, and occasional crisis situations
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality with sensitive medical information and foster an ethical work environment
  • Ability and willingness to carry out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
  • Demonstrates complete understanding and responds effectively with sensitivity to special populations served by KCHC

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years experience as a Pharmacy Technician in an outpatient setting preferred.
  • Extensive working knowledge of the EPIC EMR system, DRX computer software, and knowledge of Microsoft programs with the ability to effectively communicate using Outlook preferred

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a member of the KCHC Healthcare Team in the provision of health services to individuals, families, and/or their communities.
  • Works collaboratively with patients and their caregivers—to the extent preferred by each patient—as well as with other members of the KCHC Healthcare Team to accomplish shared goals within and across settings to achieve coordinated, high-quality care.
  • Provide customer service to patients dropping off or picking up prescription orders.
  • Enter and process prescription orders into the computer and consult with pharmacist as needed.
  • Retrieve, count, and set up orders to support the work of the pharmacist.
  • Create a profile of the patient’s health and insurance information in the computer system and update patient profiles as needed.
  • Answer and effectively respond to phone calls.
  • Assist the pharmacist and other medical staff, under direct or remote supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and Agency policy and protocols.
  • Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims and trouble-shoot insurance coverage issues to ensure resolution.
  • Receive inventory, stock shelves, rotate stock, and verify all associated documentation.
  • Prepare pharmacy inventory, order medications, and other supplies as needed.
  • Conduct end-of-month inventory, remove and dispose of any expired stock per Agency policy/protocol/procedures.
  • Communicate with medical staff to obtain refill authorization and refer patients for appointments as necessary.
  • Closely follow all policies and procedures pertaining to operating a 340B pharmacy.
  • Operate cash drawer at point of sale.
  • Help with record-keeping requirements of the pharmacy.
  • Communicate and work closely with pharmacists to provide safe, efficient, and accurate care to all patients.
  • Comply with CHC Standards of Conduct, Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance.
  • Ensure the pharmacy facilities are upkept and that the pharmacy is clean, at appropriate temperature, and secure at all times.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned, that support the overall mission and vision of Kodiak Community Health Center.
  • Assist in training new employees.
  • Perform back-office duties as described in the Medical Assistant job descriptions as training and qualifications permit.
  • Front office duties as required or assigned.
  • May travel to provide coverage in other sites or to participate in training programs or continuing education.
  • Understand role in Disaster Plan and that safety is a condition of employment.
  • Follow CHC’s policies and procedures.
  • Serve on various CHC and community committees as required/requested.
  • Attend meetings, seminars, and conferences as appropriate to ensure skills and knowledge remains current.
  • Other duties as assigned.
