Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Valid Virginia Pharmacy Technician Certification is required within 9 months of hire.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills required.

  • Ability to complete data entry with accuracy required.
  • Ability to prioritize work required.

Nice To Haves

  • Pharmacy experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Executes cash register transactions, to include cash, credit card and check transactions, with minimal errors.
  • Maintains adequate cash levels for daily store use by proactively monitoring till levels throughout the day.
  • Remains readily available and eager to assist at both pick-up and drop off areas.
  • Verifies and enters required customer data for narcotic and controlled substance purchasing via POS and/or logbook as necessary.
  • Accurately enters all patient data into pharmacy dispensing system, including allergy info, third party information and applicable notes.
  • Updates patient profile as necessary.
  • Utilizes “three-second rule” to ensure proper SIG labeling per prescription order and medication dispensed.
  • Works independently to resolve common claim rejections with minimal involvement of the pharmacist or other team lead.
  • Effectively prioritizes prescriptions, sets appropriate system Priority, and communicates patient needs to the pharmacist on duty.
  • Processes prescriptions according to applicable state and federal law and regulation.
  • Reviews prescription data entry while filling to ensure correct drug and quantity dispensed.
  • Performs the Discharge Technician duties to provide coverage when needed; this includes serving as a discharge prescription liaison for communication and filling needs of the program when needed.
  • Responsible for inventory duties that include maintaining stock areas and workstations in a neat and orderly manner.
  • Documents and communicates products to be ordered.
  • Performs cycle counts as assigned correcting inventory on-hand quantities and verifying discrepancies.
  • Reviews inventory stock and selects correct medications per prescription instructions.
  • Regularly communicates workload status to fellow team members including the pharmacist on duty to ensure workflow efficiency.
  • Coordinates with pharmacist-on-duty for all work and meal breaks.
  • Effectively communicates workload status between shifts.
  • Uses proper phone etiquette when communicating with patients, healthcare providers and co-workers.
  • Participates in pharmacy topic and staff meeting discussions.
  • Actively participates in any process or procedural change discussions to bring new ideas and feedback to the group.
