About The Position

Assists in providing pharmacy services to Sterling Health Solution's clinic patients. Reports directly to the Director of Pharmacy. Frequent standing or walking for extended periods of time. Periodically lifts and carries items up to 30 lbs. Requires eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to read prescriptions and comprehend certain prescription abbreviations. Frequent exposure to communicable disease, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to medical environment.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of pharmaceutical and related medical technology.
  • Knowledge of medical safety standards and working with pharmaceutical substances.
  • Knowledge of prescription drugs and the dispensing function to check for correctness.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public.
  • Ability to read and interpret prescription information.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform arithmetical computations and use other pharmaceutical calculations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to learn and understand the 340B drug pricing program.
  • Graduation from high school or GED

Nice To Haves

  • One year pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in dispensing of prescriptions by mixing suspensions, counting tablets or pouring liquids under pharmacists' supervision.
  • Being familiar with correct prescription terminology used.
  • Checks all prescriptions for completeness of information. Verifies patient information and proper physician authorization.
  • Enters patient data and prescription information into computer system.
  • Prepares prescription labels.
  • Assists with inventory control of medications and supplies. Helps order supplies and medications. Receives and shelves medications. Checks regularly for outdated medications.
  • Provides non-drug information to patients and answers simple inquiries.
  • Operates cash register and performs transactions.
  • Cleans pharmacy equipment, and work area.
  • Attends required meetings and participates in meetings as requested.
  • Participates in staff development and educational activities.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.
