About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician is responsible for stocking pharmacy supply items, assisting pharmacists in filling orders, and performing minor clerical duties. Under the direct supervision of the Pharmacy Director, this role involves maintaining inventory, receiving and storing pharmacy supplies, and ensuring accurate record-keeping. The Pharmacy Technician supports the efficient operation of the pharmacy by assisting with supply management and maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school (Required).
  • Working knowledge of methods and practices used in receiving, storing, maintaining, and issuing supplies and equipment.
  • Familiarity with inventory records keeping and basic clerical tasks.
  • Ability to write legibly and keep accurate records.
  • Proficiency in making simple arithmetical computations.
  • Clerical aptitude and ability to work well with others.
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Fill supply orders under the direction of the Pharmacist from pharmacy stores for various sections of the hospital.
  • Unpack and store pharmacy supplies, including verifying items received and storing perishables such as antibiotics in refrigerators.
  • Check invoices against delivered orders to ensure correct items are received, charges are accurate, and there is no breakage.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and pharmacy equipment, and prepare orders for new supplies at the Pharmacist's request.
  • Keep simple control records for supplies received and issued, and generate reports as required.
  • Compute the cost of individual items or units from bulk supplies.
  • Type labels for medications issued by the hospital pharmacy and record transactions in the pharmacy log.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties in the pharmacy, such as keeping the work area clean and orderly, cleaning equipment, and running errands.
  • Dispose of unused or outdated drugs and other pharmacy supplies as directed by the Pharmacy Director.
