About The Position

The Office of Pharmacy and Clinical Support Services seeks a Pharmacy Technician located in Chicago, Illinois. Under the direction of a registered pharmacist, fills medication orders and packages unit dose medications. Enters medication orders into the computer system, fills orders for medications and supplies, transports medication to recipient units, retrieves orders, and restocks automated medication machines. Keeps stock records and inventories of medication and supplies. Keeps work area clean.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years’ of high school.
  • Requires Illinois registration as a registered certified pharmacy technician.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • This class is included as an Upward Mobility Program credential title
  • Requires ability to lift and carry medication containers and supplies weighing up to 50lbs for an extended period.
  • Requires ability to utilize computer equipment and learn data entry necessary for pharmacy function and record keeping.
  • Requires ability to maintain current licensure and registration with Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulations (IDFPR) and completes all required Continuing Education (CE).
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Responsibilities

  • Performs services on behalf of the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) and Office of of Pharmacy and Clinical Support Services.
  • Enters medication orders into IDHS computer system and records/logs issuing of controlled substances.
  • Delivers medications to recipient units or to transport vehicles.
  • Performs stockkeeping and inventory functions.
  • Performs routine inspections on medication rooms for unlabeled, unused, or expired drugs.
  • Attends and actively participates in mandatory training.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
