About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician Trainer is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing training programs for pharmacy technicians in a Class A outpatient pharmacy setting within a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). This role ensures all pharmacy technicians are fully trained in accordance with state regulations, FQHC-specific protocols, 340B program compliance, and best practices in pharmacy operations. The Trainer serves as a subject matter expert and mentor to promote excellence in pharmacy support services and patient care. For this position, 0.6 FTE will be dedicated to on-site duties in the pharmacy (performing Class A Pharmacy Technician responsibilities) and 0.4 FTE will be allocated to administrative and training duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (higher degree accepted)
  • Three (3) yrs as a tech with at least One (1) year as lead tech or supervisory role
  • Experience in an outpatient, Class A pharmacy setting
  • CPhT (Certified Pharmacy Technician) Through PTCB or ExCPT Upon Hire
  • Knowledge of 340B program operations and compliance

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in FQHC, community health center or other safety-net health care setting (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive training curriculum for new and existing pharmacy technicians, covering:
  • Prescription processing
  • Inventory management
  • Patient interaction and customer service
  • Use of pharmacy software systems (e.g., EHR, e-prescribing, and dispensing software)
  • 340B program compliance and procedures
  • Safety, sanitation, and HIPAA compliance
  • Deliver structured training (classroom, hands-on, and one-on-one) for onboarding and continuing education.
  • Assess trainee performance through evaluations, audits, and observations.
  • Provide coaching and feedback to improve technician performance and competency.
  • Collaborate with pharmacy leadership to identify training gaps and implement improvement strategies.
  • Maintain training records in compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Stay current with state board of pharmacy regulations, FQHC standards, and changes in pharmacy practice.
  • Assist in workflow as needed to ensure smooth pharmacy operations during staff transitions or absences.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and performance metrics.
  • Serve as a liaison between pharmacy staff, providers, and other departments to optimize interdisciplinary communication.
