Purpose of the Job: Improve the overall health of the communities we serve by expanding the availability of health care by assisting the Pharmacist in providing prescriptions to patients as follows.

Requirements

  • HS diploma or GED required.
  • Pharmacy Assistant License required.
  • Excellent customer service, oral and written communications skills required.
  • Compassion for patients required.
  • Must be able to work well in team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced work environment, with ability to anticipate future needs.
  • Computer skills required.
  • Medical terminology and accurate spelling ability required.

Nice To Haves

  • General college courses preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Files and retrieves pharmacy records as required.
  • Places, receives, unpacks and stores drug orders.
  • Files completed prescriptions alphabetically/numerically on shelf for patient pick-up in the pharmacy.
  • Maintains assigned work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition including pharmacy counters and shelves.
  • Hands out refills and collects payment when requested to do so by Pharmacist where no counseling is deemed necessary.
  • Collects payment on new prescriptions and refers patient to consultation area for counseling by a pharmacist.
  • Handles inquiries or phones calls to and from the pharmacy.
  • Pulls medication from shelf and pours and counts from stock bottles for individual prescriptions under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacy. The accuracy of the prescription contents is checked, initialed and logged into the pharmacy software by a licensed pharmacist.
  • Reconstitutes restoration of original form of medication previously altered for preservations and storage by addition of specific quantity of distilled water or provided diluent requiring no calculation. A licensed pharmacist must check and initial the work of the technician 100% of the time.
  • Compounds nonsterile preparations per compounding standards established by the United States Pharmacopeia (USP 795) (WAC 246-945-100).
  • Transcribes physician orders into the computers and monitors label printing. Transcribed orders are check and initialed by a licensed pharmacist.
  • Receipt and processing of written & verbal profile information (i.e., allergies, medications) into pharmacy software system
  • Review patient profile to retrieve specific clerical and other information as directed by a pharmacist.
  • Performs tasks under pharmacist’s supervision such as obtaining individual prepackaged, labeled medications for prescriptions, obtains stock bottles for prescription filling.
  • Removes expired and/or recalled medication from the pharmacy shelves and isolates them away from other medication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Travel may be required.
