About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking pre-certified technicians in training to prepare for the PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam and become Certified Pharmacy Technicians. This role involves hands-on training in the pharmacy work area, with a structured program designed to facilitate certification within 12 months of employment. The position requires adherence to state, federal, and local regulations related to pharmacy technician functions.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Enrollment in the URMC ASHP accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program (PTTP) or certification through an alternate method within 6 months of employment.
• Must be at least eighteen years of age at the time of application.
• Eligibility to register for the PTCB certification exam upon completion of the program or alternate pathway.
• Required to pass the PTCB Certification Exam within 180 days of PTU completion.

Nice To Haves

• Previous work experience in health care or another fast-paced environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Train and participate in medication preparation activities, including preparing medication orders, obtaining correct medications, and packaging medications.
• Train and participate in efficient medication delivery activities, utilizing pneumatic tube systems and hand delivering patient medications.
• Train and participate in medication storage and inventory management activities, including stocking medication areas and checking expiration dates.
• Train and participate in customer service activities, employing courtesy and effective communication with pharmacy colleagues and patients.
• Complete the 12-week Pharmacy Technician University (PTU) program, including didactic, simulation, and experiential training.
• Engage in all assigned experiential rotations and simulation tasks, maintaining participation and communication with preceptors.
• Complete all assigned computer-based learning modules and quizzes in a timely manner.
• Review and follow all policies and procedures applicable to employment and enrollment in PTU.
