About the position

The position involves performing a variety of semi-technical and clerical duties related to pharmacy operations. Responsibilities include filling, packaging, and providing medication, restocking to fixed levels, and compounding or repackaging medications according to established policies and regulations. The role also includes cashiering duties such as collecting payments for services. The individual will greet patients and healthcare personnel, assist with prescription information, and ensure accurate dispensing of medications. Additional tasks include maintaining inventory levels, processing drug requisitions, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patients, members, and other health care personnel in a caring manner.
  • Initiates service transactions using proper forms and processes.
  • Refers inquiries regarding patient care to the pharmacist.
  • Assists with inputting patient and prescription information.
  • Matches prescriptions with labels and selects proper drugs and quantities.
  • Fills containers, applies labels, and presents completed products to the pharmacist.
  • Prepares medication for unit dose distribution as trained.
  • Processes clinic and hospital drug requisitions.
  • Checks stock levels and removes outdated goods.
  • Fills and updates unit dose cassettes.
  • Picks up and delivers medications and supplies as scheduled.
  • Calculates prices for prescriptions and sells non-prescription drugs.
  • Collects payments and verifies information on checks.
  • Balances daily receipts and prepares bank deposits.
  • Gathers data for reports and maintains accurate charge schedules.
  • Orders routine supplies for the cashiering area.
  • Maintains equipment in the cashiering area.
  • Inspects and maintains a clean and organized work area.
  • Coordinates and answers incoming phone calls.

Requirements

  • Previous pharmacy experience or enrollment in a pharmacy technician training program.
  • Completion of Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) within 2 years of hiring.
  • High school diploma or equivalent related experience.
  • Ability to follow instructions and troubleshoot equipment problems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of customer service and communication skills.
  • Mathematical ability and attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Completion of a pharmacy technician training program.
  • Post high school coursework training.
