About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor is responsible for coordinating the daily duties of the Pharmacy Technician staff under the supervision of the Operations Coordinator/Pharmacy Manager. These responsibilities include: coordinating the daily technical functions of the Department, assisting in developing and implementing procedures, quality assurance, interviewing and selection of technical staff, preparation of technician work schedules, technician staffing adjustments and assignments, monitoring of time and attendance for technical staff, overseeing charging and billing, assist in developing and implementation of process improvement and safety initiatives, and oversee training and orientation of new employees. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor also is responsible for performing all the functions of the Technician (1, 2, 3 or 4) staff.

Requirements

  • High School Equivalent / GED
  • Graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician program and/or allied program/degree
  • 5+ years Pharmacy Technician experience in a comparable community or hospital setting
  • Understanding of metric system and basic math concepts
  • Good Communications skills
  • Understanding of pharmacy computer systems, TPN compounders, and automated dispensing cabinets
  • The ability to work autonomously and proactively and see the broader implications of decisions and solutions
  • The ability to address complex problems with original and innovative solutions
  • The ability to evaluate employee performance and provide constructive feedback
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) State of Ohio CPhT license

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the daily duties of the Pharmacy Technician staff.
  • Coordinate the daily technical functions of the Department.
  • Assist in developing and implementing procedures.
  • Perform quality assurance.
  • Interview and select technical staff.
  • Prepare technician work schedules.
  • Make technician staffing adjustments and assignments.
  • Monitor time and attendance for technical staff.
  • Oversee charging and billing.
  • Assist in developing and implementation of process improvement and safety initiatives.
  • Oversee training and orientation of new employees.
  • Perform all the functions of the Technician (1, 2, 3 or 4) staff.
  • Triage medication/patient care related and daily operational issues (for Inpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Scheduling and timekeeping for the Technician staff (for Inpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Develop and implement department policies and procedures (for Inpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Provide regular feedback on employee performance and coordinate corrective actions in partnership with department leadership and Human Resources (for Inpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Prepare and maintain documentation as required by the State Board of Pharmacy, Department, Hospital, and accrediting organizations including but not limited to licensures, on-boarding documents, specific job competencies, Isensix reports (for Inpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Fill the role of Pharmacy Technician 1-4 in the event of staffing shortages or high work volume (for Inpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Utilize pharmacy systems to process prescriptions, including insurance adjudication and prior authorization submittal, and accurately prepare dangerous drugs for dispensing including counting, pouring, labeling, and performing non-sterile drug compounding and reconstitution (for Outpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Inventory, replenish, and maintain drug stock which includes automated dispensing cabinets and prescription pick-up kiosks (for Outpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Package and sell dangerous drugs to a patient or patient representative and answer questions to ensure a positive patient experience (for Outpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Perform inventory management including par levels, order review and submission, returns processing, recall management, and outdates process oversite (for Outpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Provide direction to technician staff on day to day operations and perform extensive trainer duties with new hires and/or technician trainees (for Outpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Perform extensive buyer duties including purchasing, invoice processing, cost transferring, and specialized ordering (for Outpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Act as a 340B expert including ordering and inventory management, compliance, and cost/product transferring (for Outpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Participate in new technician candidate interviews and assist with performance appraisals (for Outpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Provide regular feedback on employee performance and coordinate corrective actions in partnership with Human Resources (for Outpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Prepare and maintain documentation as required by regulatory and accrediting organizations (i.e. State Board of Pharmacy, DEA, CMS) (for Outpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Develop and implement department policies and procedures (for Outpatient Pharmacy Tech Supervisor).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with all policies and standards.
  • Abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients.
