About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician Student position is a four-month accelerated program designed for individuals who are ready to commit to a focused, detail-driven learning experience in a professional pharmacy environment. Throughout the program, students participate in a variety of structured training components, including classroom lectures, onsite experiences, hospital and retail rotations, IV admixture preparation, compounding, retail operations, pediatrics and newborn exposure, and logistics. Under the direct supervision of licensed pharmacists, students take on meaningful responsibilities that strengthen technical skills, accuracy, and confidence across multiple areas of pharmacy practice. Training emphasizes safe medication practices, prevention of medication errors, hazardous drug preparation, effective customer service, and the timely delivery of critical medications. Requirements

  • Generally requires 0 to 3 years of related experience.
  • High School diploma or successful completion of GED required.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment.
  • Knowledge and skill in use of job appropriate technology and software applications.
  • Valid license

Responsibilities

  • Assists in receiving, unpacking, and storing supplies.
  • Checks contents against invoice.
  • Operates labeling machine and repackages pharmaceuticals into dispensing containers for patient use under supervision.
  • Assists in maintaining inventory control of labels, bottles and drugs scheduled for repackaging and repackaging large bulk liquids into smaller containers for distribution.
  • Fill and deliver to Omnicell/Pyxis on nursing stations; delivery of pharmaceuticals such as narcotics, explosives, caustic alkaline and acid, inflammables and other items requiring specialized care and handling. Cleans and washes specialized pharmaceutical, chemical, laboratory glassware and associated equipment.
  • preparation of complex IV admixtures and compounding under proper supervision using aseptic technique
  • Assisting with non-sterile compounding and the preparation of specialized medications
  • Inventories pharmaceuticals and related equipment and supplies; maintains pharmacy working areas in a clean and orderly condition. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
  • Performs all other related job duties as assigned.
