The Pharmacy Technician Specialist - Investigational Drug Services is a member of the inpatient pharmacy team, working directly with department pharmacists to maintain and improve pharmacy services for assigned areas. This role is responsible for preparing and delivering all sterile admixture products for adult and pediatric inpatient areas at the Medical Center under the supervision of a pharmacist. The position requires performing essential duties satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations made for qualified individuals with disabilities.   • Assists pharmacists and other technicians to maintain an efficient medication distribution system to provide safe and efficient patient care.
  • Accurately prepares sterile admixture products, such as intravenous snap-ons, large volume parenterals, syringes, chemotherapy, and bulk manufactured products using aseptic techniques.
  • Prepares sterile admixture products using mathematical calculations.
  • Operates and maintains specialized pharmacy equipment (IV safety software, barcode software).
  • Charts all scheduled maintenance designed to ensure sterility according to protocol.
  • Performs daily, weekly, monthly, and terminal cleaning of the IV room.
  • Adapts behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and communication style.
  • Remains knowledgeable on current federal, state, and local laws, accreditation standards, or regulatory agency requirements.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 6 months of experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Current Pharmacy Technician Certification issued by the Board of Pharmacy in the state of practice.
  • ASHP Sterile Product Preparation Certificate (5 years of IV Production experience may be accepted in lieu of the certificate, but must obtain it within 90 days of hire).
  • Must have computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
  • Working knowledge of pharmaceutical mathematics and sterile technique.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Windows-style applications and various software packages specific to the role.
