About The Position

This position will be supporting the new Pharmacy Distribution Center (PDC) which is responsible for helping with medication distribution to the Avera Health System. The technician works under direct supervision of a registered pharmacist and assists in drug preparation, storage, distribution, and inventory management within a variety of pharmacy environments. The role includes accurately inputting and/or preparing labels and packages for inpatient or outpatient medication orders and prescriptions to maintain an efficient, accurate, and high-quality medication delivery system.

Requirements

• Registered Pharmacy Technician - Board of Pharmacy.
• Active registration in the state of practice within 30 days.
• Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA) or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) upon hire.

Nice To Haves

• High School or GED Equivalent.
• Less than 1 year of experience.

Responsibilities

• Accurately inputs and/or prepares labels and packages inpatient or outpatient medication orders and prescriptions.
• Communicates with nursing staff, physicians, customers, co-workers, supervisors, and management.
• Participates in interdepartmental work groups and committees to promote high-quality communication and prevent patient harm.
• Demonstrates knowledge of medications, calculations, regulations, and personal protective equipment.
• Performs clerical functions such as billing, patient demographics, and pharmacy inventory.
• Assists with the collection and maintenance of records for compliance with accreditation entities.
• May assist customers on the phone or in person.
• Runs reports and uses the automated dispensing system.
• Conducts monthly inspections of medication stocks in assigned areas.
• Assists with inventory to prevent drug shortages or excesses.
• Demonstrates proficiency in compounding practices.
