They are actively recruiting skilled, caring practitioners to support their rapidly growing program base and supported healthcare facilities. This position is for an Outpatient Pharmacy Technician at Ft. Belvoir, VA, requiring work on rotating schedules including weekdays and Saturdays. The role involves a working knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, drug distribution systems, and assisting pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications, while also maintaining records and providing drug information to healthcare professionals and patients.

Requirements

  • Shall have transcript verifying Certified Pharmacy Technician education provided with resume.
  • Must possess and maintain current certification (with no limitations, stipulations, or pending adverse actions) by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
  • Shall have and maintain current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS). Certification must be by American Heart Association and individual must demonstrate ability to initiate CPR in event of respirator or cardiopulmonary arrest.
  • Minimum of the equivalent of 16 hours per week work experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician throughout the last year.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Responsibilities

  • Possess a working knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology, common drugs, medication dosage forms, storage and security requirements for drugs, and the operation of common pharmacy equipment.
  • Possess extensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals to include therapeutics, dosage, nomenclature, side effects, interactions and incompatibilities.
  • Be intimately familiar with all aspects of the Outpatient and Inpatient Drug Distribution System.
  • Receive and interpret outpatient prescriptions or inpatient medication orders.
  • Assist pharmacist in selecting and preparing medications.
  • Maintain necessary prescription files and other records in accordance with applicable regulations and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain thorough familiarity with MTF therapeutic formulary, dispensing policies, and requirements for eligibility for care.
  • Be accountable for all controlled substances dispensed to the single tablet, capsule or similar unit for all controlled substances dispensed.
  • Provide drug information to other health care professionals and patients when requested.
  • Display a helpful, courteous manner to patients, visitors, and staff explaining options, and recommending solutions based on facts.
  • Utilize the Composite Health Care System (CHCS), AHLTA outpatient medical record, and ESSENTRIS inpatient medical record and the Ambulatory Data System (ADS).
  • Complete all required paperwork.
  • Utilize paraprofessionals as appropriate.
  • Perform documentation and patient care IAW JC guidelines.
  • Assume additional administrative or clinical duties as requested to ensure sustainment of normal clinic operations and ensure compliance with JC standards.
  • Ensuring enforcement of clinic SOPs and standards.
  • Compounding medications for inpatient or outpatient use which require extemporaneous manufacturing procedures (sterile and non-sterile) to include parenteral nutrition and chemotherapy IAW best practice standards such as USP Chapter 797.
  • Uphold established patient care and practice standards.
  • Review and submit reports as required.
  • May be assigned to other clinics in the FBCH footprint on a temporary basis as needed or for additional on the job training.
  • Participate in all mandatory training.
