About The Position

The Pharmacy Technologist assists Pharmacists in providing drug distribution, technical services, and clinical services associated with the preparation, storage and dispensing of pharmaceuticals. The Senior Pharmacy Technologist assists pharmacists in providing drug distribution, technical services, and clinical services associated with the preparation, storage, and dispensing of pharmaceuticals. The Senior Pharmacy Technologist provides technical support and addresses problems related to the assigned area and only passes complex issues to the relevant Lead Pharmacy Technologist and/or Supervisor as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP) or Registered as a Pharmacist Intern with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy (TSBP).
  • Two (2) years of pharmacy technician experience OR Associate of Applied Science in Pharmacy Technician.
  • Four (4) or more advanced Pharmacy Technologist competencies.

Nice To Haves

  • ACPE approved IV (sterile products) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Pharmacists in providing drug distribution, technical services, and clinical services.
  • Prepares and/or oversees preparation of complex prescription medications or medications that require special handling.
  • Participates in the operations of medication therapy management.
  • Initiates medication reconciliation.
  • Assists with screening, documentation, and preparation of immunizations.
  • Works with patients, providers, and payers to obtain prior authorization.
  • Resolves billing/adjudication issues encountered in the processing of prescription.
  • Performs system data entry of information such as referral requests, drug utilization management information, prepacking information, drug purchasing information, or non-formulary approval information.
  • Demonstrates the ability to communicate with other healthcare professionals effectively and professionally.
  • Ability to apply accepted procedures in inventory control of medications, equipment, devices, and other supplies.
  • Supports pharmacy compliance with professional standards and relevant legal, regulatory, formulary, contractual, and safety requirements.
