As a Pharmacy Technician in the Operating Room, you will support Cleveland Clinic’s inpatient pharmacy operations that serve 60 nursing units, 80 operating rooms, 4 PACUs, and 10 cath labs across more than 1,440 inpatient beds. In this inpatient-focused role, you will primarily support the operating rooms by completing controlled and non-controlled substance medication replenishments, managing medication inventory, monitoring expiration dates, and performing quarterly nursing unit inspections. This position plays a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient, and timely medication availability to support surgical and perioperative care teams. Caregivers in this role will work 2nd shift from 2:00pm to 10:30pm with no weekend requirements. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding. Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner. Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections. Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training. Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks. Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National HealthCareer Association (NHA)
  • Active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
  • Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of a formal pharmacy technician training program
  • 6 months of hospital experience
