The Pharmacy Technician – Medication Access supports a high-volume pharmacy filling approximately 450–800 prescriptions per day while playing a key role in ensuring timely medication access for patients. Responsibilities include bedside delivery of medications as well as supporting in-pharmacy operations such as prescription filling, register support, phone communication, and inventory management. This role involves significant movement throughout the hospital and offers hands-on training with direct support from leadership, including ongoing guidance, process education, and troubleshooting support throughout the first year. A caregiver in this role will work five, eight-hour shifts Monday – Friday and rotate every 5th weekend from 9am-1pm with no on call or holiday expectation.

Requirements

• High School Diploma/GED
• Six months of related experience OR completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program
• Must hold an active registration as a Registered Pharmacy Technician through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP). Please note: A status as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee with OBOP does not qualify for this role. • It is required, within 18 months from the date of hire: Must obtain a national certification as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA) AND Registration as a Certified Pharmacy Technician with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy

Responsibilities

• Communicate directly with patients and caregivers while performing technical functions within the assigned work area to ensure timely and accurate procurement of prescriptions and documentation within the electronic medical record when required.
• Identify potential medication-related access problems and work with patients and the multi-disciplinary team to solve these problems in an efficient and patient-centered manner.
• Coordinate education, bedside medication delivery, and medication payment.
• Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure a seamless medication-related procurement process for patients.
• Work with the pharmacy leadership teams to identify areas of opportunity for improved patient experience.
• Assist manager in creating, implementing and monitoring quality control programs in assigned area.
• Conduct third party prior authorization requests when needed.
• Monitor program performance, including patient volumes served and patient experience indicators, serving as a valued resource to identify discharge prescription coverage issues and assist in their resolution.
• Complete medication histories or other transitional care activities as assigned per location.
