About The Position

Position Summary : The Pharmacy Technician Manager provides daily, front-line operational leadership for assigned pharmacy department functions and personnel, including staffing, scheduling, and real-time coverage of pharmacy technician services. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant execution of pharmacy distribution and support services across the health system while working in close collaboration with pharmacist leadership. The Pharmacy Technician Manager operates within all State and Federal laws, regulatory and accreditation standards, Health System and Departmental policies and procedures, and established ethical and professional standards. Decisions are made independently within defined authority and collaboratively with pharmacist and system leaders when clinical or regulatory oversight is required. This position has authorized access to patient, financial, and organizational confidential information, non-controlled and controlled medications, and designated hospital funds, consistent with policy and regulatory requirements. The Pharmacy Technician Manager supports pharmacy services for patients of all age groups and is expected to provide direct operational support and staffing coverage when necessary to maintain safe and effective pharmacy operations. The position may be assigned responsibility for Ambulatory, Acute Care, and/or Pharmacy Support Services. ­­­­­­­­­­­­

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Active status with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Technician
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate organizational and management abilities.
  • Previous computer experience in word processing, spreadsheets, and Pharmacy IT systems is desired.

  • Masters or Bachelor Degree
  • Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT-Adv), Certified Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT), or Certified Pharmacy Technician Educator (CPTEd)
  • 3-5 years Applicable experience in pharmacy with demonstrated history of leadership, initiative, and team performance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day supervision of pharmacy technician staff and pharmacy operational workflows for area assigned including Ambulatory, Acute and/or Pharmacy support.
  • Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant medication receiving, processing and delivery.
  • Ensure technician compliance with individual competency and regulatory standards pertaining to pharmacy technicians under pharmacist leadership.
  • Ensure technicians collect, document, and communicate accurate medication information in accordance with hospital policy and regulatory standards.
  • Serve as the primary operational escalation point for technician-related issues.
  • Develop, manage, and maintain pharmacy technician staffing schedules across all shifts.
  • Coordinate and adjust staffing plans with pharmacist leadership to ensure alignment with clinical services dependent on varying operational needs.
  • Provide direct staffing coverage when necessary, including technician duties, to maintain continuity of operations.
  • Monitor overtime, productivity, and staffing metrics; implement corrective actions as needed.
  • Ensure pharmacy operations comply with all state, federal and regulatory bodies in collaboration with pharmacist leadership.
  • Maintain operational compliance with departmental policies, procedures, and competencies.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, tracers, and regulatory surveys related to pharmacy operations.
  • Coordinate discrepancy investigations and corrective actions in collaboration with the Pharmacist Manager and Director of Pharmacy.
  • Authorized to make independent operational decisions within defined scope, policy, and regulatory limits.
  • Collaborates with pharmacist leadership for decisions involving clinical judgment, medication therapy, or regulatory accountability reserved to pharmacists.
  • Assist leadership on any other pharmacy related projects/duties as assigned
  • Drives staff engagement and promotion of the organization and department through consistent, respectful, and positive communication with staff.
