About The Position

MHC Healthcare is seeking a Pharmacy Tech Lead to join the Pharmacy team at the Marana Main Health Center, located in the heart of Marana, AZ. The Pharmacy Technician Lead provides customer service, performs duties under the supervision of a Pharmacist within the permissible activities as defined by Arizona Board of Pharmacy (AZBoP), and acts as a lead to Pharmacy Technicians and Clerks (pharmacy support team). MHC Healthcare is a Federally Qualified Community Health Center (FQHC), with 14 sites in Tucson and Pima County. Requirements

  • 3 years’ experience as a Pharmacy Technician
  • Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician by the Arizona Board of Pharmacy
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety (or ability to obtain upon hire)
  • Cash handling experience
  • Thorough knowledge of Pharmacy Technician and Pharmacy Clerk permissible duties as defined by the AZBoP.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and fills prescriptions according to established procedure and ensuring proper review for accuracy by supervising Pharmacist.
  • Enters patient medication orders and prescriptions into the pharmacy computer system or transcribes them into appropriate documents.
  • Identifies issues related to patient medication orders or prescription processing and assists the supervising Pharmacist with proposed alternative solutions, problem resolution, and follow-up.
  • Documents dispensing preparation, charging information, workload, and quality assurance data.
  • Follows established manual and electronic inventory control procedures and provides guidance to the pharmacy support team to ensure efficient inventory control and proper medication handling and storage.
  • Ensures compliance of the pharmacy support team with local, state, and federal regulations regarding the practice of pharmacy.
  • Creates and submits required reports in support of pharmacy operations and ensures daily reports prepared by pharmacy support team are accurate and timely.
  • Repackages and labels bulk medications into unit dose packages.
  • Answers phones and provides customer service within the established scope of permissible duties of Pharmacy Technicians as defined by the AZBoP.
  • Ensures customer service provided by Pharmacy Clerks is within the established scope of permissible duties of Pharmacy Clerks as defined by the AZBoP.
  • Prepares for and participates in audits and quarterly reviews of drug outdates.
  • Provides guidance, training, technical advice, and subject matter expertise to pharmacy support team.
  • Assigns and maintains work to pharmacy support team, monitors effectiveness of procedures and workflow, and identifies and addresses processing, technical, or workflow problems.
  • Recommends process improvements to pharmacy leadership and helps establish or develop new procedures, including those related to safety and quality control.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to policies and protocols related to infection control, medication administration, storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Ensures compliance of pharmacy support team with established financial procedures including proper cash handling protocols, collection of co-payments, accuracy and timeliness of insurance information, billing payors, and preparation of financial reports.
  • Participates in trainings and continuing education.
  • Complies with all MHC Healthcare policies and procedures including those related to HIPAA and compliance.
