About The Position

In this role of Pharmacy Technician Lead at BUMC Tucson, you will be responsible for but not limited to: training initiatives, reporting and data analysis, performance feedback, compliance auditing, scheduling, collaboration with other leads, and support in production where needed. Prior authorization and financial assistance experience is needed for this position. You will work an 8 hour shift between the hours of 7:30AM - 6PM Monday - Friday. Clinical Pharmacy Services is responsible for the management of the Banner formulary, development of standardized system wide clinical pharmacy services, and management of adverse drug event preventions. Clinical Pharmacy Services provides collaborative drug therapy management and educational interventions in patient care to optimize medication therapy, improve outcomes, promote wellness, and disease prevention. As a division, Banner Pharmacy services provides excellent patient care across our entire continuum through convenient access, improved medication outcomes and innovative pharmacy practices. POSITION SUMMARY This position will coordinate workflow of all team members to ensure prompt and accurate resolution of all functions performed within their respective team of the pharmacy. Act as an educational resource to team members and work in close cooperation with other department leaders. Train and help onboard new staff as needed. Serve as a mentor and coach, identify and share best practices, demonstrate, advocate, and reinforce a positive team environment. Provide support to operations by assessing workflows and making recommendations for improvement. Continuously communicate with all pharmacy and associated departments including third party vendors if needed to optimize patient care and continuous pharmacy operations improvement.

Requirements

  • Licensed and registered pharmacy technician in the state of practice, where applicable. Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire.
  • Minimum of 5+ yrs of healthcare and/or insurance/third party reimbursement experience required, in which 2+ yrs are as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Strong customer service focus, superior problem-solving abilities required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, network, web-based and payer applications preferred.
  • Ability to anticipate customer requirements and meet those needs in an appropriate and timely manner is required.
  • Ability to prioritize organization requirements and track progress of multiple initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Leadership experience preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare processes, registration or customer service preferred.
  • Prior experience in retail pharmacy or mail order as a pharmacy technician position preferred.
  • Knowledge of governmental reimbursement rules and regulations preferred.
  • Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) and Fee-For-Service (FFS) reimbursement methodologies preferred.
  • Knowledge of third party payer edits preferred.
  • Knowledge of commercial, Medicare B, Medicare D and Medicaid pharmacy rules and regulations preferred.
  • Bi-lingual preferred.
  • Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations of pharmacy team and assist in normal daily workflow to ensure operational goals are met.
  • Provide training, support, feedback, and guidance for new all staff and current staff when warranted.
  • Coordinate workload rebalancing and cross-training of pharmacy team across different required functions.
  • Ensure pharmacy team in assigned area is providing patient care that meets and exceeds the standards at Banner Health, contractual, regulatory and corporate compliance.
  • Implement and maintain medication access processes across multiple organizational departments.
  • Comply with all policies/procedures/regulatory requirements and perform other work assignments.
  • Delegate work assignments to pharmacy team and provide support as needed until desired results are achieved. Assist with patient escalations and resolution when needed.
  • Assist with maintaining a clean work environment and any other administrative duties as assigned by pharmacy leadership.
