About The Position

The Division of Student Affairs comprises over 30 departments, each responsible for providing various student support, services, and educational programs accessible to the university community. The major responsibility of this position is to serve as Pharmacy Technician (assisting the pharmacist in prescription processing, provision of Over the Counter items to patients, daily maintenance of pharmacy supplies and records, serving as a resource for patients and medical providers). Public Contact: 35% Public Contact involves both personal and telephone interaction. The person in this position interacts with students, fellow employees, faculty, parents of students, medical, and University personnel employed by other sections and divisions of the institution. Many times the person in this position is the last contact someone has during their visit to ECU Student Health Center and sets the conclusion of the whole visit. This interaction is an extremely important aspect of the Student Health Service. The nature of the duties and responsibilities encompasses responding to inquiries concerning medications, charges, and services available, and information not governed by the laws of confidentiality. There is also contact with sports medicine, insurance companies, students, and parents. Maintenance: 20% The department requires continual maintenance in order to assure proper working conditions and maintaining workflow. Maintenance includes, but is not limited to, restocking products, straightening and cleaning, filing, checking for out of date items, recording information in logs or records, ordering products, updating files and information sources. All of these items and many more aspects assure proper function of the department and it is essential that they are performed either scheduled or on an as needed basis and that they are performed correctly. Prescription Processing: 30% The employee will divide their time, as needed between several job duties encompassing many aspects of pharmacy practice as well as some office clerical duties. These work aspects will require flexibility and multi-task job performances. The employee's duties may include but are not limited to processing prescriptions, to include obtaining patient information, computer input, bottle preparation, and student check out. Records:15% There are various types of records and forms kept by the employee in this position. This person is responsible for assuring the maintenance and preservation of these records. This person must maintain original prescriptions, daily prescription reports, insurance adjudication, and various other records that are needed for the proper daily functioning of the pharmacy department

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited nine-month Pharmacy Technician program; or high school diploma or equivalency and one year of pharmacy-related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Some positions may require certification as a Pharmacy Technician.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with sick or injured patients.
  • Experience working in a medical setting.
  • Some computer knowledge and general knowledge of office machine operation is preferred.
  • Experience communicating with physicians, nurses, support staff, patients, and the general public is preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is helpful.
