Requirements

  • High school diploma (or equivalent) and successful completion of a Florida Board of Pharmacy (FLBOP) approved pharmacy technician training program.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Three (3) years of pharmacy experience.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
  • FLBOP registration in accordance with Florida Statutes, Title XXXII (Regulations of Professions and Occupations), Chapter 465 (Pharmacy), Section 014 (Pharmacy Technician).

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of technical and clerical duties for the hospital-wide unit dose drug distribution system and the intravenous admixture program.
  • Maintain confidential reports and enter/retrieve data utilizing the computer system.
  • Prepare intravenous medications (IV) including chemotherapeutic preparations, hyper alimentations, and antibiotics.
  • Fill automated medication dispensing systems with a supply of unit dose medications.
  • Procure and fill requests for pharmaceutical supplies and deliver supplies to patient care areas.
  • Manage pharmacy automation and engage in specialized departmental activities such as documenting medication histories and inventorying narcotics.
  • Assist in training/educating lower-level pharmacy technicians.
