Pharmacy Technicians/Inpatient assist pharmacists in preparing and distributing medications, maintaining drug inventory, and maintaining patient records. They also have additional training in compounding sterile medications both hazardous and non-hazardous, and must maintain competencies for each type of compounding per regulations. This technician role is more specialized than the Pharmacy Technician/outpatient and the Medication Historian technician roles. Pharmacy technicians/inpatient work only under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. They do not perform duties that can legally be performed only by a registered pharmacist.
