As an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, a caregiver in this role will rotate through multiple pharmacy areas while learning and mastering the core responsibilities of inpatient pharmacy operations. Daily work includes delivering medications to nursing units across Main Campus, working the carousel, triaging calls, and managing the MAR message system to support caregivers on the floors. This position involves extensive walking and hands-on engagement throughout the hospital. With training and demonstrated competencies, caregivers may have the opportunity to transfer to one of up to 16 other pharmacy areas, making this an excellent role for individuals looking to build a strong foundation and grow a long-term career in pharmacy. A caregiver in this position works evening shift from 2pm-10:30pm and rotates every 3rd weekend.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Completion of a Pharmacy Technician Program
  • Upon hire, you must be a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) through the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or the National Healthcare Association (NHA).
  • In addition to the above requirement, upon hire, it is required to hold an active registration through the Ohio Board of Pharmacy (OBOP) as either a Certified Pharmacy Technician, Registered Pharmacy Technician, or Pharmacy Technician Trainee
  • Please note: Caregivers with active Pharmacy Technician Trainee or Registered Pharmacy Technician registrations are required to update their registration to a Certified Pharmacy Technician registration with the OBOP within 6 months
  • Understanding of algebraic calculations necessary for the preparation of extemporaneous compounds

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medications through selecting, labeling, repacking, non-sterile compounding and sterile compounding.
  • Deliver medications to the appropriate storage locations in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate and appropriate inventories of medications and supplies and complete inventory audits, such as cycle counts and nursing unit inspections.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work area by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, and document regulatory requirements such as temperature logs, scheduled activities and training.
  • Use information systems, technology and automation to complete assigned tasks.
  • Assist with the training of pharmacy caregivers and students.
