About The Position

This advanced Pharmacy Technician role encompasses specialized areas such as Infusion/Oncology, Pediatrics/Neonates, Controlled Substances, Automated Medication Systems, Medication History, Investigational Drug Services, and others. Technicians perform advanced responsibilities that include, but are not limited to, the safe preparation and handling of sterile, non-sterile, and hazardous medications; system optimization and enhancement; adherence to regulatory standards; and direct patient interactions related to their area of practice. They demonstrate strong technical proficiency, attention to detail, collaboration, and effective communication while supporting training and operational excellence across all specialty areas. Cross-training may be required across specialty areas as appropriate. Medication History Utilize tracking boards and reports from the electronic medical record (EMR) to identify patients to perform medication histories. Review currently documented external prescription history and contact the patient’s retail pharmacy to resolve any medication concerns. Update and reconcile the patient’s home medication list in the EMR Inquire about medication allergies and update the EMR Document interventions made daily in the EMR Communicate changes in medication history to treatment team Utilize AIDET (Acknowledges Introduces Duration Explanation Thanks) skills while speaking with patients and their families to improve trust, communication, and compliance and improve clinical outcomes Assist in training of pharmacy personnel, when appropriate Demonstrate excellent communication skills, attention to detail and teamwork

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • PTCB or NHA certification active or acquire within 6 months of hire
  • Current active registration with the State of NJ Board of Pharmacy required

Nice To Haves

  • Hospital Pharmacy experienced preferred
