About The Position

The Pharmacy Technician III performs specialized functions necessary to assist pharmacists in providing safe, efficient, friendly and cost-effective pharmacotherapy services. These specialized functions include, but are not limited to: sterile compounding, controlled substance oversight, pediatrics, medication history, patient assistance, inventory control, medstation maintenance, unit inspection, packaging, and bedside discharge service. The role requires the utilization of requisite equipment, non-sterile and/or compounding supplies, and computer systems for the procurement, preparation for verification, and/or delivery of medication. This position also involves performing quality control procedures and contributing to the maintenance of the pharmacy, equipment, and supplies. A key responsibility is to assume ownership of at least one pharmacy-related project outside of normal job duties, as determined by a supervisor/manager, which could include workflow redesign, performance improvement, safety, quality control, regulatory, administrative, staff development, or technology. The Pharmacy Technician III is also responsible for training and mentoring new employees and/or students in the theoretical and operational aspects of procedures, and serving as a mentor for less experienced staff. Furthermore, they will work with pharmacy leadership to develop and implement at least one staff competency for technicians, pharmacists, or other healthcare professionals. Other duties may be assigned as needed.
